There has been much debate around the appropriate MET threshold to use when describing or characterizing sedentary behavior and standing. While there will always be exceptions, the consensus definitions proposed in this paper (sedentary behavior ≤1.5 METs, passive standing ≤2.0 METs; Table 5) have a broad base of support.
